implement the Livelihoods Improvement Project for the Himalayas in
Meghalaya, a joint venture of the International Fund for

primary objective of the Project is to improve the livelihood of
vulnerable groups in a sustainable manner
through the promotion of improved livelihood opportunities and
strengthening of local institutions that relate to livelihood
development.

The International Fund for
Agricultural Development (IFAD), a specialized agency of the United
Nations, was established as an international financial institution
in 1977 as one of the major outcomes of the 1974 World Food
Conference. The conference resolved that "an International Fund
for Agricultural Development should be established immediately to
finance agricultural development projects primarily for food
production in the developing countries". IFAD's mission is to

NEICORD is a non-profit Christian
organization responding to the needs of the poor and marginalized,
irrespective of color, race religion and gender. In November 1981, a
group of concerned Christian leaders, whose hearts were filled with
compassion came together and prayed to seek and address to the needs
of the suffering of the poor and marginalized. As a result of this
prayer, the “North East India Committee On Relief &

Samrakshan is a
registered non-profit organisation working in India for
sustainable livelihoods for forest dependent communities and
ensuring a kinder world for non human animals. A salient feature
of Samrakshan's work is to foster future conservation and

team stationed in South Garo Hills in Meghalaya is working towards
creating a "win-win" situation for the Asian elephant

Gramin Vikas Nidhi (RGVN)
RGVN has been in the
"development" sector for more than a decade. RGVN's aim
has always been to improve the quality of life of the poor -
"food", "clothing" and "shelter", a
prerequisite to it. The NGO Support Program and the Credit and
Savings Program has been able to cater to the first two requirements
of a better quality of life. Rural development not only encompasses
livelihood promotion but an overall improvement in the living
conditions of the poor ….. , and "shelter" is one of the
